In the Spring of 2011, the Guild of the Broader Mind revealed a shocking secret to the world. After years of the nation's best cognitive scientists studying the capabilities of the mind, they had found evidence of telepathic powers in humans. They told the world that there were people out there with the ability to read people's thoughts and brainwash people without them even knowing it. The public wasn't told that the Guild collected this evidence through kidnapping and experimenting on people they discovered to be telepaths however...
Telepathic powers were nothing new to the world, however, as telepaths have existed throughout history keeping their powers hidden. Telepaths have always lived quietly among the people, some keeping their powers subtle, others not so much, but attributed accomplishments to natural talents in persuasion, leadership skills, charisma, etc., but with the Guild's announcement, they had been thrown into the spotlight for the first time.
But this wasn't the end of their troubles, and it was the least of their problems. Soon after, people all over the world began experiencing strange dreams of "shadow people" and developing telepathic powers themselves. The telepathic population was beginning to skyrocket as regular people began gaining these powers. Not only that, but with the increase of telepath activity, the Guild has been gearing up to invest in the opportunity to take in more test subjects...
